  • From its beginning in 1995 up to end of June 2004, the VTA had been able to provide vocational training to a total of 146,420 young persons, 114,671 or 78% of whom were from the rural sector. Thus, the VTA can be considered as the country's premier training rganization in the delivery of vocational training to the youth.
  • In the Year 2003, a Total of 22,770 were enrolled in training courses of the VTA's 223 training centers and institutes. In the same year , 19,440 completed their training from these centers/institutes. In 2004, 19,544 were enrolled up to end of July.
  • While 5416 trainees who had completed training were found job placements by the VTA in 2003,2521 were found such placement up to end of June 2004.
  • In January and July 2004,a total of 44 training courses in 15 different trades were converted to Competency Based Training (CBT) mode in 33 of the VTA's training centers. 1029 VTA trainees were taken in for training in CBT during this period.About 300 of them will sit for trade tests leading to the National Vocational Qualifications (NVQ's) before the end of this year.
  • Eqipment for 14 Learning Resources utilization centers (LRUC's) were given to the VTA by the Skills Development project (SDP) in 2004. These centres will funtion as Electronic Libraries with Internet facilities etc and provide valuble learning materials to trainees from all training centers in the surrounding areas.
  • A Printing School which will also operates as a commercially viable printing press was ceremonically declred open by Hon. Minister on 21st of July ,2004 at the VTA Head Office premises .Printing macheinery and accessories worth Rs.40 million were made available for this venture by Skills Development Project(SDP).
  • A motor repair and servise center was also declared open by Hon.Minister at the VTA Head Office premises on 21st of July.This center will also run on a commercially viable basis while providing on the -job training to tranees at the same time.
  • A Quality Management System (QMS) was installed at the National Vocational Training Institute(NVTI) Narahenpita on 31st of Auguest, and a complete maual was prepared covering all aspects of the QMS will be installed in two more NVTI before end of September and in the other NVTI and four DVTCs before the end of this year.
